CHIMERE

Molded blown glass elements, cold worked and assembled by interlocking and gluing; audio speakers and sound track.

In collaboration with Signoretto Lampadari - Murano

Chimere is a sound installation that investigates the relationship between the glass material, its shape and sound.
The project started from the study of the interaction between multiple glass shapes and sound: this exploration of the resonances of matter has led to a literacy and classification of shapes based on the frequencies with which they resonate and the effects produced on sound, and finally to the creation of four compositions with specific formal and acoustic characteristics.
In fact, each shape responds and communicates differently with the sound vibration, coming from small speakers placed at the entrance: certain frequencies are amplified but also connoted, entering into resonance with the glass shapes that act as sound boxes and acoustic horns.
The sounds are those produced by the furnace during the manufacturing processes and recorded in field recording.

The project was made in Murano glass in collaboration with Signoretto Lampadari, within the GLASSOUND project, with an exhibition at the Magazzino del Sale N ° 3, in Venice.
The four compositions were created by combining elements of the glass production of the companies involved in the project with parts designed with the aim of harmonizing the whole in its function.
The reference to the myth of the Chimera is related to the methodological process adopted in the composition: the section and selection of what exists - the raw material - and the assembly of parts of different natures, have the intent to create new meanings, to reinterpret, and the function of originating a stronger element.
